Tour some of the Juniata River Valley’s historical treasures, and you may feel like you are stepping back in time. The Lewistown Train Station, built by the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1849, is thought to be the oldest structure they built that is still in use. The station stays busy welcoming travelers boarding the Amtrak, traveling between NYC and Pittsburgh. The Stone Arch Bridge, shown above, is the oldest single-arch stone bridge in central PA. Located near Lewistown, the bridge was built in 1813 and spans Jack’s Creek. Visit our many museums including the Tuscarora Academy Museum, the McCoy House Museum, Kishacoquillas Valley Historical Society and the Amish & Mennonite Heritage Center.

Historic Bridges

Juniata County is home to four historic covered bridges, including the Pomeroy Academia Covered Bridge, which is the longest in the state. This bridge spans nearly 279 feet and is accessible to the public. Lehman’s Covered Bridge, shown above, is near Port Royal, and North and East Oriental Covered Bridges are close to the eastern border of Juniata County.
